Good Hobie Christmas Gifts

If your looking for some good gifts for Christmas here are some of the Hobie Mirage Kayak accessories that will make your kayaking experience more enjoyable.

For your Kayak Fisherman...
The Hobie Livewell is an awesome gift designed to keep live bait on your kayak for the offshore fishing. It also works very well to keep smaller fish alive during a catch and release kayak fishing tournament.

The Hobie Mirage Turbo Fin upgrade is a fantastic way to gain more speed and drive out of your pedal kayak. These fins are an amzing boost of speed with just a bit more effort. you gotta try em'.

A handy set of Hobie Plug in Cart wheels make your life easier getting your kayak to the beach. The wide frame allows for good balance. Their different styles of wheels fit the terrains that you may take your kayak.

This is the new Hobie Inflatable PFD. Stays nice and compact and is very low profile as you go about your activities.

These handy tackle boxes are an awesome addition to your Hobie kayak. This tackle box fits into the Hobie twist and seal hatches positioned between your legs. This allows for easy access to your tackle when you need it most.

This is the Hobie rod extender. It is designed to fit into the existing built in rod holders on your Hobie kayak to give you a deeper elevated rod holder. This gives you an advantage if your catching big fish with the rod in the rod holder.

If you have any questions on any of these Hobie accessories feel free to call or email any time.

New Hobie Evolve Torquedo Electric Motor

The New Hobie Evolve electric motor is now available at the shop. It is an amazing addition to the already wonderful Hobie Mirage pedal kayaks. The system is light and very easy to use giving you the ability to turn your kayak into a small boat. Haha. The system allows you either attach it to the existing twist and stow Hobie rudder or snap it into the mirage drive pedal well. I have personally tried it and was blown away by its size, efficiency and ability to maneuver come down and try my demo motor today.

2009 VA Summers Sports Clinic

Every year we are privileged to take a bunch of our recently injured vets kayaking in the annual summer sports clinic. Knowing what these proud americans have done for our country has given me a new respect for the men and women that put there lives on the line for the rest of us. I feel so honored to help these guys in any way that I can. It is amazing to watch them be able to enjoy the sports that I am so passionate about. Here are some photos from the event. So inspirational...

Purple heart leading his team in the opening ceremony of the event.

Ron Lane leading the Pack

At the event all the guys play an on the water football game. This is one of the raddest things to watch. Kayaks crashing into each other, people falling out and smiles on every face.

In this photo Ron is getting this guy ready for the on the water kayak football game. The interesting thing about this man is that he is blind. Talk about a tear jerker... This guy sacrificed his eye sight for our country. So as Ron put this guy in the kayak the challenges of kayaking were evident let alone playing football on a kayak. With some coaching he was able to complete some catches and make some passes to fellow team mates. To see the smile of his face and the joy of accomplishing a feat such as this was amazing.

These are the VA members who put this on... Thanks Duffy and Sandy for allowing us to be apart of such and amazing event.

Battle of the Paddle

This weekend was the Battle of the Paddle stand up board race. It truly was a battle. Hayden was one of the participants in the invitational elite division, paddling against the worlds best paddlers. Hobie made some awesome race boards for the team that were very successful in the overall standings. Here are some photos of the event. (Thanks Uncle Larry for the photos.)

Here's Hayden being filmed as they take off on the running beach start.

It looks to me like Hayden in trying to spank the infamous Chuck Patterson. Haha.

Chuck soon caught up but it was a great battle for a while.

Rob Machado and Gerry Lopez... Our heros to say the least!

White Sea Bass

The infamous White Sea Bass is a fish of beauty. This year I was able to see my fair share and catch a few of them. With the stealth of a kayak and the use of braided fishing line I was able to get very close with this beautiful fish. Here are a few Pics of fish that I swear I never would have caught if I was not on a kayak.

The Power of the Pro Angler

Here's a little bit of what the Pro Angler can do. Proven and tested by Jared Lane. Haha.

Thresher Shark

38lb. White Sea Bass

Fresh Water Bass fishing. This is me and Dustin on the same Pro Angler fishing a pond. Worked killer.

You can stand up and fish! This will change the sport.

Yellowtail on your Kayak

The first yellowtail I ever caught from a kayak sent a rush of adrenaline into my body that has now hooked me for life. There is something great about a stealthy, queit kayak that gives the sport a unique and very enjoyable feeling. There's no gas or motors involved and more importantly they don't make any noise. Here are a few clips that might show some of the perks of fishing from a kayak.

21 miles across the sea!

Mission: Sail the Hobie Mirage Islands from Long Beach to Catalina
Plan: Camp on the island and play all day.
Activities: Fishing, spear fishing, and stand up paddling.
Food: Chili, Campers freeze dried food, and whatever we could catch.
Equipment: The Sailing yaks, hand held GPS and VHF Radio, Compass, PFD

The Launch

Day 1
We launched from Cabrillo Beach with much anticipation with no idea of how this trip was going to go. There are so many things to take into consideration when you embark on any ocean going voyage. With all of the safety precautions covered I felt pretty confident that we would make it. As we left the beach the conditions were calm and foggy. Not ideal conditions for sailing a small craft 21 miles. As we made our way off shore the sun came through the fog and a light but steady wind picked up. We were able to make a slow stead pace towards the island.

Here are some of the things we did along the way...

Day 2 & 3
We made it. It was an easy ride to the island. Not fast, but very enjoyable. It took 6 1/2 hours due to the light winds. While we were on the island we were highly equipped with the worlds best water toys. We had two Hobie stand up paddle boards and a bunch of fishing gear. There was an awesome little kelp bed next to our camp spot with tons of little fish in it. We used the stand up boards and the kayaks to get over to it and do some diving. There were all types of pirch in the kelp that we made into some delicious meals.

One of the highlights of the trip was the tipi that we made out of the sails from the boats. It was a little windy this night and the sails gave us some shelter as the stand up board acted as our table for the delicious meal that we enjoyed.

WE MADE IT!!!!!!

For a three day vacation, this was one of the most fun, and affordable things we could have done.
